Where PIwitness Comes From
PIwitness was created by licensed private investigators with more than 30 years of combined investigative experience and thousands of completed investigations. That experience spans workers' compensation cases, infidelity and domestic matters, missing persons, process service, personal protection, and a wide range of other assignments that require careful, defensible documentation.
The team behind PIwitness has made hundreds of court appearances. We know what it looks like when a report holds up under cross-examination — and what happens when one doesn't. We know what adjusters expect, what attorneys look for, and what details get missed when you're writing reports from memory at 11 PM after a twelve-hour surveillance day.
PIwitness was not adapted from generic note-taking software or built by developers guessing at what investigators might need. It was built from the inside — by people who have sat in surveillance vehicles, testified in depositions, and written the same kinds of reports this software now helps produce.
Why We Built It
After years of writing reports the hard way — scribbling notes in the field, then spending hours at a desk reconstructing timelines, formatting descriptions, and making sure terminology was consistent — we knew there had to be a better process. Not a different profession, just a better tool for the one we already had.
We tried general-purpose apps. They didn't understand investigative report structure. We tried dictation tools. They captured words but couldn't organize a case. We tried AI writing assistants. They didn't know the difference between a surveillance report and a blog post.
So we built PIwitness — software that understands how investigators actually document their work. It captures observations in real time with timestamps, GPS coordinates, and evidence-integrity hashing. It organizes entries by case. And when you're ready, it generates a properly structured investigative report using the terminology, formatting, and description orders the industry expects.
